In light of new weather developments late this morning, and based off of the latest information available to A°¼Í¹ÊÓƵ by the National Weather Service (NWS), Austin’s Emergency Operations Center and the City of Austin, all schools and district offices are closed today Jan. 28, due to inclement weather.
All after-school activities are cancelled, including athletic events.
For information about non-district events and activities scheduled at A°¼Í¹ÊÓƵ facilities today, please contact the sponsoring organizations directly.
The district plans to resume regular school and district hours on Wednesday, Jan. 29, and will update families and staff if this changes.
The decision to change school start times or have cancelations is based off of the most reliable data and up to date information from NWS and a local meteorologist, but it also includes information and feedback from A°¼Í¹ÊÓƵ’s school-based and district staff, who are on the frontlines monitoring road conditions, coordinating bus drivers and routes, and reporting on staffing levels that may be reduced because of weather related circumstances.
Despite A°¼Í¹ÊÓƵ’s decision early last night to delay school start times by two hours today, weather conditions late this morning were more severe than initially anticipated and than A°¼Í¹ÊÓƵ was advised. Therefore the city advised A°¼Í¹ÊÓƵ and others that it was not safe to be on the roads. Based on this information, A°¼Í¹ÊÓƵ canceled school and office hours to ensure the safety of students and staff.
A few students were already traveling on A°¼Í¹ÊÓƵ buses when the district made the decision to cancel school today. The district worked to ensure that each student was in contact with his/her family and transported home safely. If you have any questions about A°¼Í¹ÊÓƵ’s bus procedures, please contact the district’s transportation department at 512-414-0238.
