Austin °¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ Celebrates Juneteenth

AUSTIN, TX—Austin °¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ staff members, students and the Austin community will celebrate Juneteenth at this year’s parade.

What: A°¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ team members and members of the Board of Trustees will lead the A°¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ All-Star band in the parade, showcasing custom-designed A°¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ T-shirts and carrying an A°¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ banner.

Schedule of events:

10 a.m. Saturday, June 15            Juneteenth Historical Parade             Comal St. and MLK Blvd.

Background: Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is a holiday commemorating the day Texas learned President Lincoln declared the end of slavery. The official holiday is June 19.

A°¼Í¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Department of Communications and Community Engagement is coordinating the district’s involvement in the parade as part of its efforts to improve outreach to the African-American community. The parade is sponsored by the Greater East Austin Youth Association, the City of Austin and Austin Parks and Recreation.
