Crossing guard and students demonstrate safety at crosswalks

Austin °¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ and the city of Austin will hold a press conference during the Back to School Bash to promote safe travels to and from school.
 
The Back to School Bash informs A°¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ parents and students about district and community resources available to families for a safe and successful start to the new school year. This is an initiative of the A°¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ Department of Communications and Community Engagement and the city of Austin Safe Routes to School Program. More than 3,000 backpacks full of school supplies will be given away, along with a limited number of car seats, immunizations and haircuts to school-aged children at this free event.
 
Who: A°¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ Superintendent Paul Cruz, Austin Mayor Pro Tem Kathie Tovo and A°¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ Interim Police Chief Chris Evoy
 
What: A°¼Í¹ÊÓÆµ, the city of Austin and community partners will provide families information about how to prepare students for the 2017-18 academic year, including safety information. Houston Elementary School students will demonstrate how to safely use crosswalks.
